At TerraVerdae BioWorks, our mission is to transform the global plastics industry by providing sustainably produced, biodegradable alternatives to petroleum-based materials.

A critical requirement for these bio-based alternatives is that they not only meet, but also surpass the performance of their displaced counterparts with the potential for improved attributes. Our process combines industrial biotechnology, microbial engineering, and materials science to develop and manufacture high-value performance biomaterials and biocomposites from waste:

1. Bioprocess Engineering
Our key expertise in industrializing bioprocesses leads to efficient process optimization, scale-up, and downstream processing of biomaterials.

2. Strain Optimization and Systems Biology
Our extensive practical experience turning microorganisms into industrial tools allows optimization of strains capable of converting non-sugar carbon sources such as methanol to valuable biomaterials for commercial applications.

3. Polymer Development
Our unique green biochemistry platform facilitates development of biomaterials, including bio-based polymers and chemicals, tailored to the specific needs of our customers.

4. Modeling and simulation
Our comprehensive knowledge of industrial and biological modeling and simulation enables optimization of process and production efficiencies.


At our various facilities across the globe, we:
  • Collaborate with industrial partners and customers to design and develop biocomposites, novel biopolymers and industrial chemicals
  • Sustainably manufacture high-value biomaterials that meet and surpass performance specifications
  • Commercialize and license proprietary strains, develop products and technology platform processes

A key advantage is that our approach does not impact the food supply nor raise land use issues. It does, however, provide key economic, carbon feedstock security, and environmental benefits, including significant life cycle and carbon footprint improvements over traditional processes for petroleum-derived materials. TerraVerdae's process, in fact, could reduce greenhouse gas emissions by over 800 kilo tonnes and mitigate over 450 tonnes of carbon monoxide, 65 tonnes of non-methane volatile organic compounds, and 135,000 tonnes of methane per year.
